Reading Challenge: All The Books I Finished In 2023

My reading goal this year was to challenge myself to read longer books (I averaged 355 pages!) I read some incredible novels this year, including Geoff Rickly’s absolutely mind-blowing debut novel, Someone Who Isn’t Me. I read several novels by Latinx writers and a few by Jewish writers. Several were kinda weird and mind-bendy with magical realism (Chlorine, Rouge, Gods Of Jade And Shadow, Invisible Life Of Addie LaRue, This Thing Between Us). Several were book club reads (The Book Of Form And Emptiness, The Sentence, Chlorine, Sea Of Tranquility, Old Babes In The Wood, Rouge — hi book club babes! Love you!)

Reading is a tenet of my life that’s a non-negotiable. I do it every day. If I have free time, I’m on my kindle. It makes me a better writer, opens my mind to different ways of thinking, and gives me something else to think about besides my own dumb anxiety. There were also a lot of books I didn’t finish this year that I didn’t count on this list (I couldn’t get through The Bell Jar) and I struggled to read nonfiction, which used to be my favorite genre.
