Arriving in Morocco is like being transported through time.
The town of Marrakech was founded in the 12th century by nomads who got tired of walking around the desert. Marrakesh, a former imperial city in western Morocco, is home to sky-grazing mosques, hidden palaces, lush gardens, tiny kittens, and the medina, a walled medieval city with mazelike alleys where thriving souks (markets) sell traditional textiles, pottery and jewelry.
It’s also home to dozens of riads, which are like small palaces featuring gardens or pools on the center. They are basically bed and breakfast accommodations.
While in Marrakech for four nights, my husband, Sister and I stayed at Riad Dixneuf La Ksour, and this is my review of our stay.
Riad Dixneuf La Ksour Review
Riad Dixneuf La Ksour is located in the medina (within the ancient city walls). The location is great for walking to the medina and the souks.
Like many riads, there is a pool in the center with several rooms on various floors of the mansion, plus a giant rooftop garden with several seating areas.
I recommend eating several meals in the riad too, the food was delicious for breakfast and dinner. The last night of my stay, they even brought dinner to the roof (four flights of stairs!) so we could eat at sunset. They will bring you mint tea any hour of the day as well.
As for service, I was blown away—almost anything you want, they will do for you.
We ate breakfast at the Riad each morning and had two dinners made by the in-house chef. I’m not very familiar with Moroccan food, so I can’t speak to the “authenticity” of this food, but I do know it was delicious.
The first night, while waiting for my husband to arrive, my sister and I had dinner in the lobby, by the pool. The entree for the night was a common Moroccan stew called a Tagine with couscous.
Breakfast at Riad Dixneuf La Ksour was SO GOOD. Each morning, the table is set with a beautiful array of traditional Moroccan pottery, orange juice, tea, coffee, and fruit.
